In June 1941, Hungarian armed forces joined the Germans in the invasion of the Soviety Union, and pilots from I/I Fighter Group saw continuous action into 1942. Flying CR.42s and Re.2000s, the group enjoyed only modest success. However, when Bf 109F/Gs were supplied to the Hungarians from late 1942 onwards, numerous pilots soon began to build up their scores. By the spring of 1944 the war had reached Hungary, and a home defense wing was hastily established to defend cities from American heavy bombers. Pilots such as Szentgyorgyi, Molnar, Toth, and Debrody scored heavily in desperate battles against American fighters and bombers, before taking on the might of the Soviet Air Force once again from late 1944 until the war's end. Unlike ost of Germany's Eastern European allies, Hungary did not capitulate during the Russian advances of 1944-45, and its fighter pilots fought on until mid April 1945. Illustratedd with more than 100 photographs sourced from Hungary, as well as 32 all-new, and meticulously researched, profile artworks, this volumesheds much light on yet another forgotten Axis air arm. 96 pages.
